Bad wind and forest fire weather today

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Meteorologist Jake Dunne says we saw a few drops of rain while you were sleeping, but now it’s dry and windy with wildfires today and Thursday. Sustained northwesterly winds between 20 and 40 mph will occasionally blow above 50 putting us in extreme or even catastrophic conditions.

Behind a cold front, it will also be much cooler today across Kansas. Highs in the lower 60s this afternoon will drop into the 50s tomorrow and the breeze (and clouds) mentioned above will make it feel even cooler.

Much warmer weather will return to the state this weekend as temperatures peak in the 70s and 80s on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to the heat, there will be wind and possible weather issues related to forest fires.
