BoM weather forecast: Australians brace for wild weather with thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail to hit NSW, Qld, VIC, SA and NT

Residents have been urged to be on high alert after the Bureau of Meteorology issued a series of weather warnings across five states in Australia.

Severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail are expected to hit parts of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory on Saturday November 12.

The BoM has also issued severe thunderstorm and severe weather warnings for parts of Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia.

It is understood that the dangerous conditions will continue through the weekend in Queensland, New South Wales, with ‘intense thunderstorms’ bringing ‘damaging winds and ‘giant hail’ to some areas.

In its latest update, the BoM issued a series of warnings.

“Showers and thunderstorms are spreading across South Africa today and developing in parts of NT, Qld, NSW and Vic as a low pressure system deepens over southern Africa of the South,” he said.

“Severe thunderstorms are likely today across large parts of NT, SA, Qld and NSW, with heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail all possible with storms.

“Severe thunderstorm and severe weather warnings are in progress for parts of SA, Vic and NSW.

“Rain and thunderstorms will spread across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria on Sunday with moderate to heavy falls and widespread severe thunderstorms, particularly in the interior of New South Wales and southern New South Wales. inland Queensland with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain leading to flash flooding. Some of the most intense storms could produce damaging winds and giant hail.

“Widespread rain over flooded areas of Vic and New South Wales will likely cause river levels to rise further on many rivers early next week, with more moderate to major flooding possible.

“Flood watches are common for large parts of Vic and NSW.”

New South Wales

  • Rain and thunderstorms will spread through Victoria on Sunday with moderate to heavy falls and widespread severe thunderstorms.
  • Large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain resulting in flash flooding on Sunday. Some of the most intense storms could produce damaging winds and giant hail.
  • Widespread rain over flooded areas of Victoria over the coming week could mean more moderate to major flooding possible.
  • Flood watches are common for large parts of Victoria.

QUEENSLAND

  • Severe thunderstorms are likely across parts of Queensland on Saturday, with heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail all possible.
  • Rain and thunderstorms will spread across Queensland on Sunday with moderate to heavy falls and widespread severe thunderstorms, particularly in southern interior Queensland.
  • Large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain resulting in flash flooding on Sunday. Some of the most intense storms could produce damaging winds and giant hail.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

  • Severe thunderstorm and severe weather warnings are in progress for parts of South Africa.
  • Severe thunderstorms are likely across all parts of South Africa on Saturday, with heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail all possible.
  • Showers and thunderstorms spread across SA Saturday as a low pressure system deepens over southern SA.

NT

  • Severe thunderstorm and severe weather warnings are in progress for parts of the Northern Territory.
  • Severe thunderstorms are likely on Saturday in the North West regions, with heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail all possible.
