Fine weather today, rain and thunderstorms on the way Monday


WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Morning clouds will give way to more sunshine throughout the afternoon. After a chilly early morning with a few locations in western Kansas hitting record highs for the date, the afternoon sun is expected to allow temperatures to rebound into the 60s to near 70s. weather will end on Monday with more clouds an increased potential for rain and thunderstorms.

Momentary showers are expected throughout the day, but Monday night and Tuesday promise to be Kansas’ wettest time. The storms are not expected to be severe, but prolonged heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding issues by Tuesday afternoon. Rainfall amounts of 1-3″ will be possible for areas south of I-70 with lesser amounts to the north. Clouds and precipitation will keep afternoon highs well below normal for late May with highs remaining in the 50s and 60s through midweek. The slow moving upper level system will exit by Wednesday and Thursday bringing drier weather and much warmer weather back to Kansas. Highs will climb into the 80s by Friday.

Memorial Day weekend begins dry and warm, with storms possible Sunday evening, with scattered storms more likely on Memorial Day.
