The 5th and final test match of the series between India national cricket team and England national cricket team which was canceled last year due to Covid-19 scare in the Indian camp, started on Friday 1st July at the Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Leading pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been named India captain for the rescheduled Test match after all-formats captain Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the game after failing to recover from Covid-19.

Meanwhile, England won the coin toss and invited Jasprit Bumrah and Co. to bat first in the match. Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara opened the innings for India in the absence of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul and they failed to give India a good start.
Veteran England pacer James Anderson dismissed Shubman Gill at 7th over and Cheteshwar Pujara at 18th over. After that, young England pacer Matthew Potts dismissed Hanuma Vihari in the 23rd and Virat Kohli in the 25th. Also, Shreyas Iyer was dismissed by James Anderson in the 28th and India struggled at 98/5.
Then Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja had a phenomenal partnership of 222 runs on 239 balls and they helped India make an incredible comeback in the game. Pant was fired by Joe Root in 67th place and he scored 146 carries on 111 balls, including 19 fours and 4 sixes. At day 1 stumps, India were at 338/7 and Jadeja were unbeaten at 83.

Rain is again expected to play a part in Matchday 5 of the India v England Test Match as there is a 79 per cent chance of rain in the day when the temperature is around 18 degrees Celsius.
According to weather.com, rain showers are expected from 7:00 a.m. local time until 2:00 p.m. local time. In addition, heavy rain is expected between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Speaking of pitch, on Day 1 the box provided good support for both teams as England’s pace battery dominated in the first half picking out 5 wickets and Indian batters dominated in the second half scoring more than 200 runs without losing a wicket. Meanwhile, a similar type of pitch is expected on day two of the Test match.
Historically, the Edgbaston surface has been good for hitters, but pacers also get the support they seek as the conditions are right for the swing.
