SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Friday Utah! At the end of the working week, we expect to see more wet weather with rain in the valley and snow in the mountains. Some of us in the Wasatch Front will see light snow in the morning, but that will turn to rain as the day goes on thanks to the southerly flow helping to warm us up during the day once again. more.
In the mountains, we will still see a good amount of snow. In the northern mountains we are still expecting to see at least a solid foot more of snow, including the Cottonwoods, so powder hounds should be ready for some great runs this weekend. In the central and southern mountains we will expect around 6-10 inches more to fall during the day, which will be nothing to scoff at once all is said and done.
For most locations in the lower valleys, the accumulation will be minimal, although snow levels drop when our humidity valve begins to close. Luckily, this means roads shouldn’t be as impacted for last-minute shopping that needs to be done or getting to nearby areas. The Wasatch Back areas will wake up to a very different scene as snow continues to fall and even accumulate.
Snowy roads and breezes can sometimes cause blowing snow and reduced visibility. It is best to avoid traveling in the morning, when the snow will be even heavier. In the lower elevations of central and southern Utah, we can expect to see heavy morning rain, especially along the Arizona border. Don’t be surprised if you hear a few rumbles of thunder as this system can also cause thunderstorms. Nothing serious is expected next to heavy snowfall in the mountains. Temperatures for the day will hover around the 40s and 50s despite all the cloud cover.
In short, a very wet start to the weekend is coming.
