BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Fog is our primary concern going into Friday, with a dense fog advisory in effect for most of our area until 9 a.m. Drive slowly this morning and remember that if you encounter fog to ensure you use dipped beam.
Otherwise, once the fog clears by mid-morning, bright sunshine will prevail today in the wake of a weak cold front that brought some rain to the region on Thursday. Highs will be near slightly above normal this afternoon, peaking in the low to mid-70s. temperatures falling from the low 60s to the mid 50s. Winds may start to pick up in some areas as another cold front moves through the region.
This second cold front moving into Friday evening will bring more significant cooling as we head into the weekend.
Lows will hit lows in the mid-40s on Saturday morning, with highs struggling to top 60° in some areas despite mostly sunny skies. A strong northerly breeze will add to the coolness on Saturday. Those heading to Southern or LSU football games on Saturday night will definitely want jackets, with kickoff temperatures nearing 50° dropping into the 40s by the end of games.
Sunday morning will deliver our coldest weather as lows hit the upper 30s around the Baton Rouge metro. Areas north of the capital could dip into the mid 30s meaning an early morning frost is not out of the question. But afternoon temperatures will rebound into the upper 60s under sunny skies.
The good weather continues for the first half of next week, with mostly sunny skies and moderate temperatures. The highs could flirt with 80° by Wednesday. A chance of rain returns late in the week in association with our upcoming cold front.
