Above average temperatures will return today. Expect highs in the mid to high 80s with mostly cloudy skies. The western and central regions of the Great Country will become partly sunny during the afternoon. There will be a gusty southerly wind. A RED FLAG WARNING is in effect today from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. tonight for parts of the west and center of the big country. Critical fire weather conditions are expected in areas where dry air is in place. A WIND ADVISORY is in effect today from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. tomorrow for parts of the Greater East Country and the Heartland. Southerly wind gusts will reach 45 MPH in these areas.

A peaceful cold front moving west to east will cross Tuesday evening and Tuesday evening. As the front passes, the chances of thunderstorms will return. Storms are expected from around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday to 3:00 a.m. Wednesday for the Greater Center and East Country as well as the Heartland. Scattered severe thunderstorms will be possible during this period. The main dangers are large hail, damaging winds and dangerous lightning. Isolated tornadoes will also be possible.

The risk of thunderstorms will end around 3:00 or 4:00 this evening. Cooler air will then be introduced by a strong west-southwest wind. Skies will clear tonight with low temperatures dropping into the 50s.

Wednesday will feature abnormally cool temperatures and gusty northwesterly winds. Expect highs in the mid upper 60s under partly sunny skies. An isolated rain shower will be possible Wednesday night for areas north of I-20.

The winds will ease on Thursday turning north. It will be a very pleasant day with afternoon highs in the low to mid 70s. Mostly sunny.

Friday will see the winds picking up from the south. High temperatures will rise in the mid 80s with gusty southerly winds and partly sunny skies.

A cold and dry front will move into Saturday morning. It will be seasonal and airy.

Winds will pick up a bit on Sunday as temperatures warm to the mid 80s. It will be dry.

The next chance for thunderstorms will be Monday of next week.
