The Indian women and the England women face off in the first semi-final of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Edgbaston, Birmingham on August 6, Saturday. The Australian Women take on the White Ferns in the second semi-final on the same day.

Indian side Harmanpreet Kaur finished second in Group A and advanced to the Round of 16. They lost to Australia in the first game and then recorded big wins against Pakistan (by 8 wickets) and Barbados Women (100 runs).

“It feels good to win, the first victories are important. There were a lot of positives today and we will try to keep it that way. It is important to perform as a unit, we got off to a good start today and won quickly,” Harmanpreet Kaur said after beating Pakistan.

Kaur exceeded MS DhoniT20I’s tally of 41 wins as captain in the game brings their tally to 42. Former India skipper Virat Kohli is third on the list with 30 as India captain of T20I.

England, on the other hand, have won all three games in the league phase. They won against Sri Lanka by 5 wickets, against South Africa by 26 runs and against the White Ferns by 7 wickets to top the group in the league stage.

England had already beaten India by nine points in the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup Final. Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami were part of that team which lost the match against England. This team led by Harmanpreet Kaur has the opportunity to take revenge on the England team and come one step closer to the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The weather in Edgbaston has remained clear and sunny throughout the tournament so far. Except India-Pakistan match, all other matches had their full quota of 40 overs played.

The match starts at 11:00 a.m. local time, which is 3:30 p.m. IST. The temperature should be around 22 degrees during the day with pleasant weather expected for the game. According to Accuweather, there is a 7% chance of rain, which could even be a passing shower.
