Friday (April 15)

  • Heavy to very heavy rains are likely over isolated parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Widespread rains and thunderstorms are expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Heavy showers forecast for isolated parts of Kerala; Fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms are likely over Kerala.
  • Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
  • Isolated rains with possible lightning are possible over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Saturday (April 16)

  • Heavy to very heavy rains are likely over isolated parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Widespread rains and thunderstorms are also expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorms are expected over Kerala.
  • Scattered rains and thunderstorms are likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
  • Isolated rains with possible lightning are likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
  • Isolated rain/snow with possible lightning is likely over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh.
  • Heatwave conditions are expected over isolated locations in Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Summary of forecasts for the next five days

Under the influence of strong moisture winds from the southwest of the Bay of Bengal to northeast India, widespread rains with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya during this period. Rainfall amounts will be 80-120mm/day in isolated areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya on Friday and Saturday and 50-80mm on Sunday. A five-day rainfall accumulation of 300 mm is possible over eastern Arunachal Pradesh, eastern Assam and Meghalaya.

To the south, a cyclonic circulation will be seen over the southeast Arabian Sea, with isolated lightning seen over the southern Indian peninsula on Friday morning. This weekend, the system will bring intermittent rains and possibly thunderstorms to Kerala, Tamil Nadu and nearby areas. In particular, heavy rains are possible over Kerala till Sunday.

Meanwhile, a weak western disturbance will affect the western Himalayan region on Friday and Saturday. During this period, scattered rain/snow with possible lightning is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand.

Dry weather is likely in other parts of India.

As for mercury levels, maximum temperatures will be above normal across the northwest of the country for the next five days.

Scorching conditions (40°C) are predicted over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and neighboring regions. Overnight lows are higher than normal across the country during this time.
