Saturday (April 23)

  • Heavy rains are likely over isolated locations in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Widespread showers and thunderstorms are forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorms are likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Karnataka and Kerala.
  • Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep.
  • Isolated rains with a risk of thunderstorms are expected over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
  • Isolated rain/snow with a chance of lightning is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh.

Sunday (April 24)

  • Heavy rains are likely over isolated locations in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms are possible over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
  • Isolated rains with a risk of thunderstorms are expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Inner Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
  • Isolated rain/snow with a chance of lightning is forecast over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh.

Summary of the forecast for the next five days:

Under the influence of strong moist winds from the southwest of the Bay of Bengal to northeast India, fairly widespread to widespread rains and thunderstorms are expected to persist over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya during this period. Rainfall amounts will reach 50 mm/possible day in isolated areas of these states from Saturday to Sunday.

To the south, a trough will be observed from the northern interior of Karnataka to Kanyakumari. Lightning was seen in parts of Kerala and coastal Karnataka on Saturday morning. And over the next five days, scattered to fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over southern peninsular India.

A weak western disturbance will affect the Western Himalaya region on Saturday, another weak fresh disturbance from Sunday evening. During this period, isolated rain/snow with a chance of lightning is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh.

Dry weather is expected to prevail in other parts of India.

As for mercury levels, maximum temperatures are likely to be below average or near normal over southern, southeastern and eastern India during this period. Other sectors are expected to be near normal or above average over this period. Day-to-day lows are higher than normal across the country during this period.
