Friday (August 26)

  • Heavy rains are likely over the northeast, central and southern parts of the Indian peninsula.
  • Widespread showers with thunderstorms are expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the coast and southern interior of Karnataka, Kerala, Mahé and Lakshadweep.
  • Fairly extensive rainfall with thunderstorms is possible over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, East Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karaikal and the northern interior of Karnataka.
  • Scattered showers with thunderstorms are forecast over West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Madhya Western Pradesh, Vidharbha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Telangana.
  • Isolated rains accompanied by thunderstorms are forecast over Jharkhand, western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada.

Saturday (August 27)

  • Heavy rains are possible over the east, northeast, southern peninsula and central India.
  • Very heavy falls are expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
  • The Andaman and Nicobar Islands will also receive heavy rains.
  • Widespread showers with thunderstorms are likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, India. eastern Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, the southern coast and interior of Karnataka,
  • Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.
  • Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Konkan, Goa, Vidharbha, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and North Interior Karnataka.
  • Scattered showers with thunderstorms are forecast for Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, western Madhya Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
  • Isolated rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely over western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra and the Marathawada.

Southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will bring heavy rains to eastern and northeastern India for several days. And the showers will peak on Saturday, with very heavy falls expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.

A cyclonic circulation located over Jharkhand on Friday and a north-south trending trough over eastern India replacing the cyclonic circulation will produce widespread rainfall with locally heavy falls over central and eastern India throughout of the weekend.

Meanwhile, a disturbance from the west will impact the western Himalayan region early next week.

To the south, onshore northwesterly winds and a developing trough between the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will produce heavy rains on the southern peninsula of India for several days.

As for mercury levels, maximum temperatures will be above normal across much of India during this projection period. Minimum temperatures will be near or slightly above normal over India during the period. Meanwhile, readings will be significantly warmer than normal over the Himalayan foothills
