Here is the weather forecast for the next two days.

Wednesday (August 3)

  • Extremely heavy falls are likely over Kerala, Mahé, the coast and interior of southern Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Karaikal.
  • Heavy rains are possible over northeast India and the Himalayan foothills of central and eastern India.
  • Widespread rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahé and Lakshadweep.
  • Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Karaikal.
  • Scattered rains with thunderstorms were forecast over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Vidharbha, Chhattisgarh and Andhra coasts Pradesh and Yanam.
  • Isolated rains with thunderstorms were forecast over western Rajasthan, western Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra and Kutch.

Thursday (August 4)

  • Extremely heavy falls are likely over Kerala, Mahé, the coast and interior of southern Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Karaikal.
  • Very heavy falls are possible over the northern interior of Karnataka.
  • Heavy rains were forecast over northeastern India and the Himalayan foothills of central India.
  • Widespread rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahé and Lakshadweep.
  • Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms were forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Karaikal.
  • Scattered rains with thunderstorms are expected over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Vidharbha and the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
  • Isolated rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely over western Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh.

Summary of forecasts for the next five days

A shear zone extends roughly over southern peninsular India and is likely to move gradually northward over the next 4-5 days. Additionally, a north-south trough extends from southern Chhattisgarh to Comorin region while the western end of the monsoon trough lies north of its normal position while its eastern end is close to its normal position . The monsoon trough is very likely to be near normal or south of its normal position from 05 August. The combination of the above systems will result in the following weather events over the next five days.

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep August 2-4, southern Andhra Pradesh coast and Yanam August 6, and over Telangana , Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahé from August 2 to 6.

Isolated very heavy rain is also likely over southern interior Karnataka on Saturday, northern interior Karnataka from Thursday to Saturday, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Karaikal on Friday, and coastal Karnataka on Saturday. Extremely heavy isolated rainfall is also possible over Kerala, Mahe and neighboring Tamil Nadu through Thursday, southern interior and coastal Karnataka through Friday.

Meanwhile, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected over Konkan and Goa Thursday to Friday, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Maharashtra Thursday and Friday, and Vidarbha and Marathwada Saturday .

In addition, isolated to scattered very heavy rains are forecast for Konkan and Goa on Friday and Saturday.
