Here is the weather forecast for the next two days:

Friday (June 10)

  • Widespread rains with localized heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam.
  • Fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms are likely over Kerala, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram,
  • Tripura and Lakshadweep. Localized heavy rain is possible along the Konkan coast. Higher elevations in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim may also witness snowfall.
  • Scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Maharashtra, Goa, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • Isolated rains and thunderstorms are likely over Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Snow is also possible in higher elevation areas.
  • Isolated rains and thunderstorms are expected over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.

Saturday (June 11)

  • Widespread rains with localized heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam and Kerala.
  • Fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms are possible over Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram,
  • Tripura and Lakshadweep. Localized heavy rains were forecast along the Konkan coast. Higher elevations in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim may also witness snowfall.
  • Scattered rains and thunderstorms were forecast over Maharashtra, Goa, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • Isolated rains and thunderstorms are likely over Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Snow is also possible in higher elevation areas.

The influence of a north-south trough from the sub-Himalayan West Bengal inside Odisha and strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to northeast India are likely to drive the following weather events:

  • Widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rains over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the past next five days.
  • Isolated extremely heavy rain over Arunachal Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, and over Assam and Meghalaya over the next five days.
  • Isolated or scattered rains with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal over the next five days.
  • Isolated heavy rain over Bihar today.

The influence of strong west to southwest winds along the west coast is likely to cause the following weather events:

  • Fairly widespread or widespread light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning over Karnataka, Kerala, Mahé and Lakshadweep
  • Scattered to fairly widespread rains over Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karaikal and Telangana over the next five days
  • Isolated heavy rains over the interior of southern Karnataka on Saturday, on the Karnataka coast from June 10 to 13, and over Kerala and Mahé on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over Konkan and Goa, and scattered to fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada over the past next five days.
  • Isolated heavy rain over Konkan and Goa Friday, Monday and Tuesday, and isolated very heavy rain Saturday and Sunday.

As a result, India’s meteorological department has put Assam and Meghalaya on a red warning (meaning “take action”) for Friday. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh is on orange alert (meaning “to be ready”), while most of the rest of the country remains under yellow watch (meaning “to be updated”) for Friday.

Heatwave conditions in isolated locations are very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, southern Uttar Pradesh, northwestern Rajasthan, northern Madhya Pradesh, interior Odisha and Jharkhand on Friday.
