Here is the weather forecast for the next two days

Thursday (June 23)

  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated locations is very likely over Konkan, Goa and the Karnataka coast.
  • Heavy rains in isolated locations are possible over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur , Mizoram, Tripura, Gujarat, Kerala and Mahé.
  • Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in isolated locations are forecast over Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, the coast of Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahé and Lakshadweep.
  • Squalls (wind speed 40-60 km/h) were forecast over the east-central Arabian Sea along and off southern Gujarat, southern Maharashtra, Goa and the northern coasts of Karnataka.

  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated locations is very likely over Konkan, Goa and the Karnataka coast.
  • Heavy rains in isolated locations are possible over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland , Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra, Northern Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Mahé.
  • Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in isolated locations were forecast over eastern Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh coast, Yanam , the coast and northern Karnataka, Kerala, Mahé and Lakshadweep.
  • Squalls (wind speed 40 to 60 km/h) were forecast over the east-central Arabian Sea along and off the coasts of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and of the Lakshadweep region.

The influence of an offshore trough and strong westerly winds along the west coast is likely to result in the following weather events:

  • Isolated heavy rains over Konkan, Goa, Karnataka coast, Kerala and Mahe over the next five days, over Madhya Maharashtra ghat areas from June 24-26, over northern interior Karnataka on Friday and Saturday , over Gujarat region on Saturday and Sunday .
  • Isolated very heavy rain over Konkan and Goa over the next five days and over the Karnataka coast on Friday and Saturday.

The influence of south/southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to the northeast and east of adjacent India is likely to result in the following weather events:

  • Widespread rainfall over northeast India, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim over the next five days.
  • Isolated heavy rains over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura over the next five days, and over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya through Monday .
  • Isolated very heavy rain over sub-Himalayan West Bengal on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and Gangetic West Bengal over the next four days.
  • Isolated heavy rains over Vidarbha on Thursday and Friday, over Bihar until Sunday, over Jharkhand on Friday and Saturday, and over Odisha and Chhattisgarh until Sunday.

Accordingly, the Meteorological Department of India has put the whole of South, North East, East and West India as well as most of Central West India on a yellow watch (meaning “to be updated”) on Thursdays.
