(TWC Met Team)

With northeasterly winds settling over the Bay of Bengal and southern peninsular India, northeast monsoon rains have already arrived in southeast peninsular India. Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation (CC) over the southwestern Bay of Bengal off the coast of Sri Lanka is expected to be nearly stagnant for the next few days. Additionally, a trough passes over the CC southeast of the Arabian Sea off the coast of Kerala.

Under the influence of the above systems, heavy rains (≧65mm/day) are possible in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahé during this period. Heavy showers (≧115 mm/day) may occur in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Karaikal on Tuesday November 1st.

Additionally, a new Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region on Tuesday bringing light/moderate rainfall in isolated to scattered locations over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

As for mercury levels, maximum temperatures are expected to be below normal in parts of southern India and slightly above normal in other places during this period. With the exception of western India, a warmer trend is expected for overnight lows during the outlook period for other regions, including the western Himalayan region.
