A westerly disturbance forms a trough in the mid-tropospheric westerly winds roughly along Long.75°E north of Lat. 27°N. In addition, a well-marked low pressure area extends over the central parts of Uttar Pradesh and its environs. Due to its likely interaction with the mid-latitude westerly trough, the system is expected to gradually move northeastward towards eastern Uttar Pradesh over the next 24 hours.

Under the influence of these systems, heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning are very likely over Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh for the next two days. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over the states on September 17.

Isolated heavy falls are forecast over the sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal, Sikkim and Gujarat for the next 24 hours; on Maharashtra and Konkan-Goa for the next 48 hours and on Odisha on September 18 and 19.

Similar weather conditions could prevail over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura over the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, moderate rainfall activity is likely over the southern peninsula of India over the next five days.
