Friday (September 30)

  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are likely over Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  • Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Maharashtra.
  • Isolated rains and thunderstorms are likely over Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep.
  • Air quality is likely to be poor over northern, central and eastern India.

Saturday (October 1)

  • Fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms are likely over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands due to troughing and cyclonic circulation.
  • Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra and Lakshadweep.
  • Isolated rains and thunderstorms are expected over Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
  • Air quality is likely to be poor over northern, central and eastern India.

The southwest monsoon retreated further and advanced northeast including Punjab and Haryana from Thursday.

An east-west trough extends from the east-central Bay of Bengal to Karnataka, bringing a broad band of rain. Parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka could see isolated heavy falls on Friday.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal will become noticeable as we head into next week. East and northeast India will experience an increase in the amount of rain this weekend. The rainfall range will extend to central India by Tuesday.

Intermittent showers will continue along the Konkan Coast and adjacent areas for the next three days before easing on Monday.

As for mercury levels, maximum temperatures will lean towards the cooler side in Andhra Pradesh and adjacent areas over the next couple of days. Overnight lows will be warmer than normal across much of the country.
